NY Surf 2017-2018 End of Season Update

/NY Surf 2017-2018 End of Season Update

Dear Players and Parents,

As we reach the end of another successful season, we wanted to send around a brief note thanking all of our great players, parents, coaches and volunteers for all of the hard work that went in to making the 2017-2018 season our most successful Surf season yet.  We would also like to welcome the new players and parents to our program.  When we set out to launch Surf several years ago – our goal was to be special and different, by focusing on player development and bringing in the best coaches in our area to further develop your children’s soccer skills and promote teamwork and community.

This is an ever-evolving process, and we are very excited to announce the next phase in our club’s development:

League Platforms:    We have been invited by US Club Soccer to become an NPL member club.  We have also been invited by US Youth Soccer Association to become a member of the new National League EDP league.  These new league platforms will provide our growing number of teams the opportunity to play at an extremely high level with both league platforms providing pathways to play in both the US Club and US Youth Soccer Association Regional and National Championships.

Manchester City Partnership:  We recently signed a strategic partnership with City Football Schools, which will provide authentic and creative football coaching programs for our coaches and players utilizing the coaching philosophy and methodology of Manchester City.  NY Surf is the first club in the U.S. to implement this curriculum, and we are excited to continue to expand our Manchester City partnership in the coming year.  This new Manchester City curriculum is being implemented across all of our boys and girls teams and age groups for the Fall season.  Here is more information on program:  https://www.mancity.com/fans-and-community/club/city-football-schools/about-city-football-schools.

Club Leadership:  As we strive to continually improve the quality of our organization, we are excited to announce that Christie Welsh will be replacing Meghan Frey as Girls Director of Coaching, and Brendan Faherty will be promoted to Assistant Technical Director and Director of College Placement.

Christie Welsh, a native of Massapequa, who joined NY Surf last year as Assistant Technical Director, is one of the most decorated players ever to come out of Long Island, including being a Hermann Trophy winner, former U.S. National Team member, and one of the most decorated players in Penn State and Big Ten Conference history.  In her new role, Christie will oversee the implementation of the Manchester City coaching curriculum as well as other DOC functions.  We wish Meghan the best of luck in her future endeavors and we truly appreciate all of her efforts over the past 11 months that she spent with NY Surf.

Brendan Faherty, who recently coached our G2001 Academy LI team to win the NY Cup, and is preparing to take the team to Nationals in Colorado in July, is taking on the additional responsibility of Assistant Technical Director and Director of College Placement, working with our older teams and players preparing and positioning them to play at the next level.  Brendan has been a great addition to the Surf team and we are excited to expand his leadership role within the club.

We hope that everyone has a great summer and look forward to seeing everyone in August.  As always, do not hesitate to contact any of us with any questions.  Thanks for your continued support.

Best regards,

Matt Popoli
President
